Heifers strong to mostly 25c higher. Cows 1.50-2 00 lower in a slow trade under narrow demand. Bulls strong to 50c higher. Feeder supply strong to 50c higher. Three day receipts for holiday period 12,800 as compared 17,500 four days of previous week and 15,200 for like period a year ago. Slaughter steers made up ap proximately 33 percent, heifers 33 percent, cows 15 percent and feeders 15 percent. For the fifth successive week, fed cattle trade followed stable courses as prices continued to edge upward even in the face of a generally unresponsive carcass trade where despite a non-slaughter holiday in most plants on Memorial Day, movements of the finished product was slow. Most interests were in need of cattle and demand was generally good although activity slow slightly at midweek as carcass prices slumped. The overall finish was somewhat less attractive than the previous week with an in creased number of Good to average-Choice steers and heifers offered. Average cost slaughter steers for two days 46.58 average weight 1109 pounds as compared 46.13 and 1124 pounds previous week and 36.03 and 1130 pounds a year ago.
