Cranberry sauce, cranberry juice cocktail, and many other cranberry-rich products are now in plentiful supply and relatively reasonable in price, so you won’t be going overboard as far as the budget is concerned. Cranberry fruit drinks may be served as is, or enhanced with cinnamon, whole cloves, grated lemon or orange rind, or lemon and lime sherbet. Or you might accent their beautiful jewel-red color with a twist of lemon or green mint leaves or a slice of orange. Serve hot or cold. Baste a beef or pork roast, a chicken or turkey with cranberry juice or cranberry sauce and add either of these products to the gravy for follow-through flavor. Cranberry-sausage pancakes make a fine weekend brunch and a good Saturday night supper and they’re easily prepared, too. Allow two pancakes per serving. As soon as they’re browned on both sides, place one pancake on a serving plate and spread with jellied or whole cranberry sauce. Then add two or three cooked link sausages and top with the second pancake. Top this sandwich with a pat of butter and serve im mediately, with a jar of hot maple syrup handy for those who want it. Try this recipe for SPICY CRANBERRY POT ROAST for the main dish of the dinner meal: 2 tablespoons flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon onion salt V* teaspoon pepper 3 to 4-pound beef pot roast 2 tablespoons oil 4 whole cloves 2-inch stick cinnamon 1 16-oz. can whole cranberry sauce 1 tablespoon vinegar To Prepare: Combine flour, salt, onion salt, and pepper; rub into pot roast. In Dutch oven, slowly brown meat on all sidesjn hot oil. Remove from heat; add cloves, cinnamon and x k. cup water. Cover tightly and simmer about 2-V2 hours or till tender, adding water if necessary. Spoon off fat. Mix cranberry sauce, vinegar, and 2 tablespoons water; add to meat. Cover and cook 10 minutes more. Pollution At Home Power equipment and musical or hi-fidelity systems are among major noise offenders in the home. To reduce noise pollution in your home, select silent models when buying equipment. And use noise-deadening materials in your home. Think of the noise you are exposed to if your ventilating fan, dishwasher, garbage disposer or food blender are all going at one time in your kitchen. Though you can’t totally avoid noise, you can minimize it. When quality and price are about equal, choose the quieter model of equipment. Keep your household equip ment in best repair. Such equipment is often noisy when it needs adjustment or repair. Try not to use noisy equipment in isolation or when as few family members are present as possible. Avoid prolonged use of noisy equipment. Try not to use more than one noisy appliance at one time. Use accoustical ceiling tiles, carpet or other soft materials to help deaden noise. Another way to reduce noise in your home is to keep the volume of musical and other en tertainment equipment at as low a level as possible. Make your home a haven of relaxation and quiet.
