Slaughter steers mostly steady
after early advance lost under
bearish late demand. Heifers 25-
50 cents higher through midweek,
few late sales steady. Cows SO
LDO lower in generally slow
trade. Bulls weak to 50 cents
lower. Feeders strong to 50 cents
higher, supply again
predominantly two-way steers.
Four day receipts 15,000 as
compared 14,000 previous week
and 19,400 year ago. Slaughter
steers approximately 36 percent,
heifers 3&percent,;eows,9 percent
and feeders 16 percent Overall
finish steer and heifer crop fairly
attractive with rather liberal
percentage Choice and most
loadlots relatively free ot mud.
Fed cattle prices advanced fore
part of week but the upturn on
steers lost in sluggish midweek
trade as a reflection of lowered
carcass quotations, and few loads
heifers late no better than steady.
Some interests had adequate
inventories on hand for im
mediate requirements at the
outset of the week and were not
particularly aggressive for
numbers most days
