Ephrata Wins Small Gas Engine Contest

Fourteen teams, with two FFA
students on each team, competed
in the area Small Gasoline
Engine Contest held last week at
Manheim. The team from
Cloister Chapter at Ephrata won
first place honors, scoring 315
points out of a possible 380 points.
Other team winners were;
Manheim, second;
Elizabethtown, third; New
Holland, fourth, and Penn Manor,
fifth.
Individual scorers and the
schools represented were: John
Weaver, Ephrata, first; Dale
Weber, Ephrata, second; Eric
Zeiset, Elizabethtown, third;
Gene Gehman, Manheim, fourth;
Roy Sauder, Manheim, fifth;
Don Weiler, New Holland, sixth.
The Cloister Chapter team and
Manheim Chapter team are now
eligible to compete in state
competition at Penn State during
FFA Week in June.
The contest cqnsisted of a
written test on small gas engine
operating and repair, use of the
small gas engine service manual,
and trouble shooting an engine to
find and repair faults.
Schools participating in the
contest were: Ephrata,
Elizabethtown, Solanco, Penn
Manor, New Holland, Manheim,
Oxford, Warwick, and Octoraro.
Agriculture teachers from the
participating schools served as
judges.
