Placements
Of Broilers
Up 21 pet.
Placements of broiler chicks in
the Commonwealth during the
week ending April 21, 1973 were
1,447,000. Tfhe placements were 21
percent above the corresponding
week a year earlier, also 21
percent above the previous week.
Average placements during the
past 10 weeks were 5 percent
above a year earlier.
Settings for broiler chicks were
1,882,000 - 8 percent below the
previous week and 3 percent
above the comparable period a
year earlier. The current 3-week
total of eggs set is 4 percent
above the same period a year
ago.
Inshipments of broiler-type
chicks during the past 10 weeks
were zero compared with 12,000 a
year ago. Outshipments
averaged 253,000 during the past
10 weeks, 1 percent below a year
earlier.
Placements in the 21 States
were 64,030,000 - 1 percent above
the previous week but 1 percent
below the same week a year
earlier. Average placements
during the past 10 weeks were 4
percent below a year ago.
Settings were 76,897,000 - 2
percent below the previous week
and 4 percent below a year
earlier. The current 3-week total
of eggs set is 4 percent below the
comparable period a year ago.
Many'of the leading corn growers
in this area are tank mixing Lasso
plus atrazme to control the tough
annual grasses and broadleaf
weeds. One preemergence applica
tion at planting is all you need.
