Members of the Manheim
Central Future Farmers of
America Chapter are sending
over 1,600 packets of a variety of
vegetable seeds to aid in the
agricultural development efforts
of the East Bank of Jordan.
The seeds, which include
tomatoes, carrots, peas, corn,
beans, okra, peppers, egg plants
and watermelon, were selected to -
introduce high quality seeds to
improve the ft&kltagrititttiire as
well as the diet of‘thepeople in
Jordan's eastern bank. ’
Money for the'' international
seed project ralsed by the
Manheim FFA members from
the sale of Florida Otrus during
the winter. The vegetable seeds,
in the amount of $5OO, were
purchased at a special discount
rate from a local supplier. The
seeds will be shipped to Jordan
and distributed among the far
mers under the auspices of the
Mennonite Central Committee.
According to Glenn Weber,
FFA advisor, the Chapter
members felt that seeds would
provide a resource by which the
struggling farmers of Jordan can
help themselves through their
own efforts. More seeds will
probably be sent by the Chapter
to other parts of the world where
local agriculture cannot meet the
nutritional needs of the local
people.
This international seed project
is one example in which the
Manheim FFA Chapter is
practicing the last line of the FFA
Motto: “living to Save.”
