During the next several weeks the Twin, Valley FFA will, be visiting elementary schools in the Twin Valley District to distribute information to the students about the Pumpkin Growing Contest which the Chapter sponsors. In some of the schools the students will also be putting „on an assembly program concerning the FFA and its activities. The FFA members hope the contest will,serve the following purposes: it will help to motivate the students to learn more about how plants grow and the factors affecting plant growth; hopefully it will encourage the students to learn more about modern agriculture (not just farming) and the role it plays in our Yesterday’s soybean meal price was $OO a ton. Twin Valley Pumpkin Contest Rules national life as well as the career opportunities available; make the students aware of the FFA Chapter and the vocatioral agriculture program offered at the high school. The rules for the contest remain much the same as in previous years except thata new category has been added for pumpkins raised by teachers. The contest is, open to all students in grades Kindergarten through five in the elementary schools of the Twin Valley School District. Students will be given a copy of the rules, an entry blank, and a letter to parents by the visiting FFA members. All students and teachers participating in the contest must use the seed provided by the FFA so that no participants will have an unfair advantage. Par ticipants will be allowed to enter three pumpkins in the judging part of the contest, one pumpkin in each of the three categories heaviest pumpkin, pumpkin with largest circumference, and most unusually shaped pumpkin.
