IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE JUST THE
The needs of your family are never-ending. Equipment.
Home appliances. Feed and seed and fertilizer. Doctor bills.
College educations. Trucks and tractors. Remodeling the
house.
The people at Farm Credit understand farm families and
their special needs. After all, they've been working with
families like yours for years. They work with you to help you
reach your goals. And it's good to know that they believe in
constructive credit. . . the kind that helps you get further
ahead instead of deeper in debt.
So the two of you don't have to go it alone. Not when
there's a Farm Credit man who's a real professional when it
comes to helping farm families like yours.

This winter we bought a
quarter of beef instead of but
chering our own When 1 went to
the store to pick it up, I asked the
owner if it was ready. He told me
he didn’t know as he was only the
“boy”. “Once a man and twice a
boy,” he said So we had to ask
his son who was the manager.
I’ll bet many farmer feels as
though he is just his son’s' hired
boy even if the father owns the
farm
We complain about our ex
penses and yet we require more
and more services. Someday, I’ll
probably decide not to buy
freezer paper and spend hours
wrapping the meat but rather
pick it up already wrapped and
frozen. Then, I’ll feel the price is
very high indeed Forgotten will
be all the work someone did for
me.
Nowadays farmers also
require many services for which
they must pay. Custom operators
will milk your cows, paint your
barn, lime your fields, plant the
corn, spray the weeds and insects
or harvest your crops - all for a
price
So before we holler too loud,
we’d better remembr the hours
we spend sitting m our cars,
hours at meetings, hours before
the television or similar
recreation instead of dawn to
dusk backbreaking labor.
XXX
Smells are important to me.
Some of the unpleasant odors on
the farm are torture but pleasant
ones make up for it The
fragrance of new-cut hay or a
bank of honeysuckle m bloom is
Ida Risser
never to be forgotten.
Also pleasant is the scent of
fresh brewed meadow tea and the
aroma from the kitchen when my
girls bake bread and cakes
Yesterday the spicy, delicious
odor of a pumpkin pie, which I
baked for a friend, almost caused
me to weaken and keep it for
myself
