Every day making notes of what I did, where I went and how I felt about things. For many years each day I wrote “regular work” and then went on from there. But then I decided it was better to expalin some things as time changes everything. No longer do I feed a baby every four hours, change loads of diapers or wash milkers, buckets and strainers every morning. Now there are other things to do. As my Amish neighbor lady said, “We are glad the Lord gave us work, but we wish there wasn’t so much of it.” Often we travel along in a comfortable fixed path or routine until something happens which causes us to make a decision and change from our “regular work.” XXX Recently, I got some new furniture'or rather, I should say, old furniture. An old four-poster bed and a marble-top bureau belonging 'to my great grandmother were exchanged for Cindy’s bed and bureau. But then the decisions - should some be carried on the attib.for possible use later or simply taken outside and burned. We did both. The next day Cindy told me she felt like a queen sleeping in the high bed. Me -1 felt like an old lady from all the work of laying a rug and moving heavy furntiure. XXX As soon as my children get sick they are taken to the doctor for shots and pills. But things weren’t always this way. One of my earliest recollections is of my Mother in her nightgown, long braids of dark hair hanging down her back, standing beside a kerosene lamp and heating small onions to put into my ears for painful earaches. Other methods of curing ones ills were linseed poultices for sores, bits of bacon tied on where splinters had been, cool plantain leaves for bee stings and a Ida Risser teaspoon of cinnamon for diarrhea. When the animals got sick, we gathered wild plants and made a tea to'cure them. MYER'S METERED GAS SERVICE, INC.
