Thursday, February 22
Compared to previous week’s
close: Closing prices slaughter
steers steady after a mild early
weakness recovered on later
sessions. Heifers closed strong to
25c higher. Cows were steady to
50c higher after being as much as
1.00 higher at midweek. Bulls
1.00-2 00 higher. Small feeder
supply strong to 50c higher.
Four day receipts 14,200 as
compared 13,300 previous week

steers approximately 40 percent,
fairly liberal percentage Choice
and a modest volume High-
Choice and Prime, heifers 40
percent, cows 10 percent, feeders
7 percent Steer prices weakened
slightly on the opening session as
early demand tempered by a
Monday non-slaughter holiday in
many plants but this fully
recovered in later trading.
Moderate supplies well
distributed over the trading
period. Mud continued to pose a
major problem and many cattle
were discounted 50-1.25 because
of the expected lower dressing
percentages and the average cost
of all slaughter steers and heifers
were estimated to be lowered at a
minimum 50c per hundred weight
by these discount.
