A 12 percent increase also was
recorded in transfers of
ownership of purebred cattle in
1972 over the previous year. An
increase of 40,841 registration
certificates were transferred in
1972, as compared to 34,703 in
1971.
In addition to the expansion of
the domestic Charolais herd,
more than 2,000 active Charolais
breeders joined the AICA in 1972,
pushing active memberships in
the association in excess of
18,000 Also 529 junior mem
berships were issued to Charolais
breeders between 14-21 years of
age. Junior membership in the
AICA now stands at 2,400.
The combined herd of
Charolais in the U.S., including
recorded bulls and females and
purebreds of both sexes, totals
more than 823,000. In order to
qualify for purebred registration
with the AICA, Charolais bulls
and females must contain at least
31-32 Charolais blood.
Charolais animals of less than
31-32 percenage recorded in the
AICA Charolais crossbred
division now totals more than
570,000. To be eligible for
recordation with the AICA, bulls
must be at least % Charolais.
Half blood females, if sired by
registered Charolais bulls, also
may be recorded.
