b—Lancaster farming, Saturday, January i»/j The Mount Joy Farmers Cooperative held its annual meeting on Thursday at Hostetler’s Banquet Hall, Mount Joy. At the meeting, awards were presented to the ten highest producers for the past year. Among them were, front row, left to right: Martin Heisey, Mount Joy; Aaron Grubb, Annville; Henry Kreider, Manheim; Harold Organic Farmers Organize Growers and retailers of organic foods met in Lancaster Tuesday night and formed the Pennsylvania Organic Farmers’ Assn The initial meeting of the organization was held at the Organic Market, 601 W. Lemon St, and attracted 80 persons from as far away as Juniata, Mon tgomery and Lehigh counties in addition to Lancaster and surrounding counties Paul E Sanger, a farmer from Fredncksburg, Pa , was elected acting president and Kevin Carroll, co-owner of the Organic Market, acting vice-president Ralph Benner, sales manager for Zook and Ranck, Gap, was named treasurer and Glenn Swartz, East Waterford, Pa., secretary. Those present generally agreed that some form of organization is needed in the fast-growing business. In addition to establishing standards for labeling and aiding in the distribution of organic farm products to retaU outlets, the new organization can be expected to deal with cer tification of organic farmers. In addition to the acting of ficers appointed at the meeting, the following directors were also named • Richard Novak, Lancaster R 6; Ralph Benner, Paradise Rl; Walter Hofstetter, Limeport, Pa ; Mervm McMichaels, New Risser and Donald Risser, Bainbridge. Elvin and Paul Kreider were tops with 1.5 million pounds of milk, while Henry Kreider was second with 1.15 million pounds.
