compared 24,000 previous week
and 19,300 a year ago. Slaughter
steers approximately 40 percent,
Heifers 30 percent, cows 9 per
cent, and feeders 18 percent,
mainly fleshy two-way steers. A
fresh round of sharp advances
swept fed cattle prices to a record
peak locally with the upturn in
live prices supported by higher
carcass quotations at the
wholesale level. Demand was
broad by all interests although
some buyers were a bit more
selective on the late rounds.
Again, inquiry good for cattle to
be slaughtered outside the im
mediate Omaha area Closing
prices have been higher than
previous period five out past
six weeks and average cost
of slaughter steers this week
some 8.45 per hundredweight
above the 32.28 figure for the
week ended November 22nd.
Overall finish steers and heifers
fairly attractive but
deteriorating feedlot conditions
reflected in considerable amount
of mud carried by many cattle.
