Manheim FFA Chapter
Richard Kauffman, son of Mr
and Mrs Richard H. Kauffman,
Columbia RDI, is president of the
Manheim FFA Chapter
Richard’s projects include
three breeding sows, eight fat
tening hogs and two veal calves.
He also worked for neighboring
farmers during the summer
months
Dick won the area small
gasoline contest and went on to
place third in State competition
at Penn State In individual
competition he won first place
honors He was awarded a bronze
medal for his record book in the
County contest and honorable
mention m the State contest
He received a letter in track
and cross-country competition
and is on the school honor roll He

in church youth activities
William Krantz
Solanco FFA Chapter
William Krantz, son of Mr. and
Mrs Willis B Krantz,
Quarryville RDI, is serving as
vice-president of the Solanco
FFA Chapter
His FFA projects include four
dairy heifers, two veal calves, 10
acres of corn, five acres of
alfalfa, seven acres of wheat, and
four acres of barley. His home
farm includes 232 acres and they
are milking 48 cows
Bill is a member of the Solanco
Dairy Club, a junior member of
the Holstein-Fresian Association
of America, a member of the
Mechanic Grove Church of the
Brethren, and a member of the
National Honor Society at
Solanco High School

Mike Martin
Grassland Chapter
Poultry and music seem to be
highlights for Mike Martin, 17
year old son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Martin, New Holland
RDI.
Mike’s farming operation
consists of a 2,640 laying hen
operation, and he also has one
dairy cow, two heifers and four
show steers He raised four acres
of corn
Active in musical areas, he is a
member of the Zimmerman
Family singing group in addition
to singing in the school chorus,
PMEA Chorus, county chorus,
district chorus, and national
chorus, and an FFA musical
group.
Mike served the Grassland
FFA Chapter as reporter and was
County secretary He was named
County Star Farmer as well as
Poultry Man of the Year. He was
a state public speaker, a PAFC
delegate, and attended the
National FFA Convention.
Mike plans to go into part
nership with his father and
someday take over the farm
A Cloister FFA Chapter
member, Gerald Musser is the 17
year old son of Mr and Mrs. Paul
Z Musser, Ephrata RDI. Gerald
holds the office of Chapter
president
His farming program includes
market and breeding hogs, field
corn, squash, and baby beef.
Gerald was the Ephrata Jaycee
steer award winner in 1971. He
has exhibited livestock at local
and state shows.
At the State FFA Convention in
1972 he placed second in the land
judging contest and earned a trip
to Oklahoma to compete in the
National contest. He was a
Chapter delegate to the National
FFA Convention in Kansas City.
He also served the Soil and Water
Conservation District as a junior
director.
