During ron call members,
responded by exhibiting an an-'
tique kitchen appliance. Among
items shown were sad irons,
wooden potato mashers, pie
crimpers, ice cream dippers, tin
teapot, pudding pan, tin muffin
pan, bone handle knives and
forks. Many were 100 or more
years old.
The business meeting was
conducted by Mrs. Clarence
Stauffer, President. On Nov-
ember 29 the members will have
an all-day sewing project to
make bed pads for the County
Society. Members will par
ticipate in the Holly Tour
December 2.
Mrs. Martha Zimmerman and
Mrs. Grace Myers were elected
as delegates to the Pennsylvania
State Farm Women Convention
in Harrisburg in January. Mrs.
Elizabeth Hess is alternate
delegate.

given the Ephrata Community
Hospital building fund.
Mrs. William Eberly gave a
report on the tour to Mystic
Seaport, Conn., and Sturbridge
Village, Mass., taken by the
group recently. Mrs. Clarence
and Mrs. Earl Stauffer reported
on their visit to Kansas City, Mo.,
where Earl Stauffer received the
Gold Key FPA Award.
The speaker for the meeting
was Mrs. Quentin Eiseman,
Ephrata. She spoke on “The Role
of Women in the Christian
Home.”
The next meeting will be a
Christmas party for members
and children Saturday,
December 16, at the Mt, Airy Fire
Hall.
Society 18
Farm Women Society 18 met
recently at the home of Mrs. Ken
Brubaker, 820 Hillaire Rd.,
Lancaster. Mrs. Verna Noll had
charge of the devotional period.
The president, Mrs. David
Buckwalter, presided. Mrs. Joan
Erb was installed by Mrs. John
Hess as a new member, and the
group was reminded of the
Homemaker’s Christmas
meeting on Tuesday, November
28 at the Farm and Home Center.
Mrs. Brenda Hess demon
strated the making of flower
arrangements and holiday
decorations.
The next meeting will be at the
home of Mrs. Lester Kreider,
Buch Avenue.
Society 27
Farm Women Society 27 met
for an evening meeting recently
with Mrs. Witmer Sherer,
Manheim RD4, serving as
hostess and Mrs. Wayne Miller
co-hostess.
The feature of the evening was
a Scrapbook Program in which
each member could share a
talent of her own choosing. This
type program was planned by the

for a surprise for outgoing
president, Mrs. Roy Sauder.
“This is Your Life” was
presented by Mrs. Bob Kauffman
and Mrs, Albert Fry.
A brief history of Society 27
began the presentation, then
began the life story of the retiring
president. Slides, narration and
snapshots were combined in
terestingly in recognition of the
capable leadership for the past
two years by Mrs. Sauder. She
was also presented with several
hand-crafted items from the
group.
Mrs. Lester Hawthorne read
scripture and gave a vocal solo
with piano accompaniment as the
prayer. She also led the Flag
salute.
For roll call each member
shared an experience in which a
rule of safety was remembered
too late.
The business meeting was
conducted by Mrs. Sauder. By
laws were read at this meeting.
A report on the County Con
vention on November 4 was given
by a past president of Society 27,
Mrs. Arthur Wenger. Mrs.
Robert Kauffman represented
the Society as a candidate in the
Farm Woman of the Year con
test.
A motion was passed for the
group to entertain Hillcrest
guests at the Harrisburg State
Hospital at a Christmas party on
December 14 at 7:30 p.m. Food
and social committees will be in
charge of planning.
The next meeting will be held
December 12 at the home of Mrs.
Robert Fellenbaum, Mount Joy.
Mrs. Wallace Heisy will present a
demonstration on gift wrapping.
Members are asked to bring gifts
of bar soap for a Soap Train to be
donated to a needy cause.
Society 28
Farm Women Society 28 heard
an inspirational talk entitled
“Remembering” at a recent
meeting of the Society at the
home of Mrs. Joseph Nolt, 20
Tennyson Drive. Mrs. Donald

High assisted the hostess and
Mrs. Richard Hess led the
devotions.
Mrs. James Herr, Nottingham,
will speak on “The Husband-Wife
Relationship” at a Christmas
banquet to be held December 16
at the Bird-in-Hand Motor Inn.
The Garden Spotters will provide
the music. Husbands will be
guests at the banquet and each
couple attending may invite
another couple to attend. For
reservations, contact Mrs.
Richard Hess, Strasburg RDI.

Farm Women Society 29
members met Monday evening,
November 20, in the home of Mrs.
Walter Mowrer, Columbia.
Three members demonstrated
several ways to decorate for fall.
Mrs. Elvin Brenneman made a
pin oak leaf wreath; Mrs. Dale
Heistand explained the con
struction of a pine cone wreath,
and Mrs. Walter Mowrer showed
different methods to finish
■eramics.
Each member brought 29
cookies for a “Cookie Swap”.
Mrs. Mowrer gave each member
a book with all the corresponding
cookie recipes.
Mrs. Dale Hiestand conducted
the business meeting. Group
devotions were led by Mrs.
Rodney Miller. Following the
business meeting, refreshments
were served by Mrs. Mowrer.
Society 29 will meet December
18 in the home of Mrs. Dale
Hiestand for a Christmas party.
Society 31
Farm Women Society 31’s
meeting Monday evening ob
served Mrs. Edgar Diehl of Swiss
Colony demonstrating the art of
fondue making. The meeting was
held at the home of Mrs. Curtis
Akers.
Fondue began many years ago
in Switzerland when women used
leftover cheese by melting it
down in a pot with wine. Bread
dipped in it made the meal. Mrs.
Diehl gave many tips from types
of materials to use to when to
clean the pot. Use aged cheese for
fondue, stressed Mrs. Diehl.
The business meeting was
conducted by Mrs. Paul Trimble,
president. It was announced that
Homemakers Day is November
28 at the Farm and Home Center.
The Society will go on the Holly
Trail Saturday, December 2.
