The regional scientists represent six land-grant universities and the U.S. Department of Agriculture and are organized into the Technical Committee of Research Project NE-36. The group has published two bulletins entitled “Pesticide Residue Investigations on Raw Agricultural Commodities.” The first bulletin was issued in May of 1963 and the second in June of 1968. A third bulletin is un derway. Newly elected chairman of NE -36 is Dr. David A. Kurtz of the Pesticides Research Laboratory at Penn State. Dr. Kurtz will serve as chairman for one year, filling the unexpired term of the previous chairman. In addition to Penn State, the NE-36 group includes scientists with the land-grant universities in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Vermont, Delaware, and the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The NE-36 bulletins have summarized pesticide uses in the region as well as the disap pearance of pesticide residues on locally grown fruits, vegetables, and other commodities. Penn State Agricultural Ex periment Station scientists have been active with the project since it was organized in 1956. Dr. Donald E. H. Frear, retired director of the Pesticides Research Laboratory, was one of the early leaders of the project and was an editor of the first bulletin.
