Honey Brook - # Mountville Columbia Ephrata, Pa. Terre Hill Witmer Omaha Cattle Thursday, October 19 Compared with last week’s close closing prices on slaughter steers steady to 25 lower, heifers mostly steady. Cows steady to 25 higher. Bulls steady. Fleshy two way feeder steers and heifers weak to 50 lower, others mostly steady. Four day- receipts 18,300 as compared 17,800 previous week and 19,300 a year ago. Slaughter steers approximately 33 percent of weeks supply, heifers 37 percent, cows 8 percent, and feeders 21 percent. Prices on fed steers and heifers forced downward on Monday in reflection of lowered carcass quotations previous week. However, most of early down turns regained in active midweek session as carcass prices again pointed upward. In addition, the latest ‘cattle on feed’ report was apparently interpreted as mildly bullish by most trade interests. Best steer demand centered on choice 1000-1125 pounds and many heifer buyers preferred 900-975 pound weights with an increased awareness of ‘wastiness’.
