Society 1
The Society of Farm Women 1
met at the home of Mrs. Amos
Shenk, Lititz RD2 last Saturday.
Twenty five members and guests
were present.
Miss Rachel Bollinger
presented the devotions and roll
call was answered by the women
giving a bad habit they wished to
break.
Mrs. Paul Kurtz, vice
president, presided at the
meeting. Mrs. Joseph Russel,
chairman of the nominating
committee presented the
following slate of officers for
election: Mrs. Kurtz, president;
Mrs. Noah Kreider, vice
president; Mrs. Elmer Hershey,

Mrs. Graybill Bollinger,
outgoing president, conducted
the election of the officers.
During the business meeting,
the society members voted to
give a $lO donation to the
Needlework Guild. It was
reported that seven members
folded Christmas Seals at the
Health and Welfare Center on
Oct. 13.
The Lancaster County Farm
Women’s Convention will be held
at the Lancaster School of the
Bible on Saturday, Nov. 4.
Registration will be held at 10:30
a.m. and luncheon served at 12
noon,
Mrs. Kurtz and Mrs. Kreider
will take table arrangements to
the convention.
Guest speaker at the con
vention will be Mrs. Donald
McKechnie, from Ottawa,
Canada. Her topic will be
“Uniquely a Woman.’ r
Society members are asked to
bring baked goods and food for
the bazaar table.
Rev. Frank Reynolds, from
Teen Challenge, Rehrersburg,
accompanied by three boys,
presented a program at the
society meeting Saturday.
The next meeting will be held
at the Milton Hershey Medical
Center Nov. 3. Society members
will meet at the crossroads at
Brickerville at 6:15 p.m.
Members husbands are invited to
go along.
Society 2
Farm Women Society 2 met in
the home of Mrs. Roy Shelly of
■Elm Saturday afternoon with
Mrs. Harry Miller serving as co
hostess.
The president, Mrs. Marlin
Hosier, presided at the business
portion of the meeting. Mrs.
Miller led the devotions.
The County Convention will be
held Saturday, Nov. 4 at the
Lancaster School of the Bible,
Eden Road, Lancaster.
Members are asked for
donations of baked goods and
other goodies for the bazaar
table.
Roll call was answered by
paying dues. There were 21
members and one visitor present.
A donation of money was given
to the United Campaign.
Mrs. Paul Donough was elected
vice-president, Mrs. Layser
Shenk, recording secretary, and
Mrs. Earl Petticoffer,
corresponding secretary.
Members and friends will tour
the Hershey Medical Center,
Hershey Founders Hall and also
Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 21,1972—27
the Pultchotken Manor Farm in
Myerstown on Thursday, Oct. 19.
Society 19 will entertain Society
2 at the Lititz Church of the
Brethreff' on Saturday, Oct. 21.
The yearbooks were planned
for the coming year and a report
was given from the food stand
held at the Manheim Farm Show.
Secret Sisters were revealed
and new names picked for next
year.
The next meeting will be held
Saturday, Nov. 11 in the home of
Mrs. Nathan Oberholtzer in
Manheim.
Society 8
Farm Women Society 8
members heard a book review by
Mrs. Frank Eshelman on
Saturday afternoon. The book
was “Pocahontas” by Philip L
Barbour.
The Society members met at
the Chiques Methodist Church,
Mount Joy. There were 24
members and one visitor present
Mrs Alice Myers read from
Proverbs 8 during the devotional
period
Anna Mae Derr, president, was
in charge of the meeting Minutes
of the September meeting were
read by Miss Mary Grace Martin.
Other committees gave their
reports. Refreshments were
served by the hostesses for the
afternoon.
Events upcoming for Society 8
are - Sewing at the General
Hospital on October 25 from 9
a.m to 2 p.m.; the County
Convention to be held at the
Lancaster School of the Bible
November 4; a 50th Anniversary
Dinner at Hostetler’s for Society
8 members and their husbands at
6:30 p m. November 11.
Speaker at the anniversary
dinner will be Francis Warfel.
Society 13
Farm Women Society 13 met at
the home of Mrs Irvin Leaman,
Ronks Devotions were con
ducted by Miss Linda Leaman
Vocal and instrumental music
was presented by Mr. and Mrs
Aaron Snader and Miss Linda
Leaman.
Mrs. R. Eugene Hummel,
president, presided at the
business portion of the meeting.
It was announced that members
attending the County Convention
are to take gift-wrapped favors
for exchanging
Election of officers was held.
Mrs.' Irvin Leaman was elected
president; Mrs. Gordon Rietzel
was elected vice-president; Mis.
Ervin Brown, recording
secretary; . Mrs. William
Schroeder, corresponding
secretary, and Mrs. John
Denlinger, treasurer.
Plans were made to sew cancer
pads at the home of Mrs. Ervin
Brown beginning at 9 a.m. to 3:30
p.m. October 31 Members are
asked to bring a covered dish for
lunch.
Members will meet for a
Christmas decoration workshop
on November 14 at the home of
Mrs Robert Sayres, Witmer.
The next regular monthly
meeting will beheld November 10
at Jhe home of Mrs. Robert
Sayres Mrs. Eugene Hummel
will serve as cohostess
Society 29
Farm Women Society 29 met at
the home of Mrs. John M. Heisey,
Mount Joy, Monday evening
Featured speaker for the evening
was Mrs Wallace Heisey who
gave a gift-wrapping demon
stration entitled “Packages for
Pennies.”
Mrs. Heisey explained that a
gift is appreciated more by the
recipient when the giver adds a
personal touch to the package
Using shelf paper, ribbon and
odds and ends that most people
discard, she created inexpensive
masterpieces. Each person
resolved to wrap their packages
more distinctively.
Mrs. Gerald Kreider led the
group in devotions by reading
from Psalm 107
Mrs Richard Garber, vice
president, opened the business
meeting She urged members to
attend the County Convention
November 4 at the Lancaster
School of the Bible. Mrs Joseph
Russell 111 is Society 29’s
representative to the County
Convention for Farm Women
Woman of the Year. Mrs. Dale
Hiestand is on the ballot for
Coutny treasurer
Mrs. Garber announced the
State Convention to be held
January 8 and 9 at the Forum
The Penn Harris Motor Inn will
host the tea and banquet for the
Convention
Mrs Eugene Wenger, 1973
program committee chairman,
announced next years programs
Mrs J. Kenneth Miller was
installed as Society 29’s newest
member It was mentioned that
three vacancies for membership
exist
Mrs Garber announced the
proposed budget for the coming
year and the group voted to ac
cept it.

Society 29 will meet November
20 at the home of Mrs Walter
Mowrer for fall decoration

to bring 29 cookies lor a “Cookie
Swap” when members will ex
