See our new
compact giant
from Ford.
Ford 340 compact loader.
Measure tonnage moved each hour and the Ford 340 compact
sizes up as a giant In tight quarters, its great maneuverability
will often let you load out several 1,500-lb loads while a big
tractor-mounted rig would be struggling to get the first buckettul
And you’ll save hours of hand labor by using the agile Ford 340 to
clean up aisles, stalls, pens and corners where the big outfits
simply cannot go.
Short wheelbase and hydrostatic drive make this rugged, rapid
rig agile and easy to handle Twin control levers let you turn the
Ford 340 right in its tracks—shuttle with smooth quickness. The
4-wheel drive gives it great traction for loading,
blade work and dozing.
Quick-change attachments are designed to keep your Ford
340 profitably busy the year around These include a manure fork,
.dirt plate, utility grapple, dozer blade, pallet fork Nine different
buckets range from 10 to 22-cu ft capacity Add a hydraulically
powered auger for postholes and other digging chores There’s
even a handy 8-foot backhoe for trenching and excavation work
Drop in soon and try the Ford 340 controls Giant performance

16th Keystone Expo
Slated
For seven days early in
November, Harrisburg will
become the livestock capitol of
the'world as beef cattle, hogs and
pigs, sheep and lambs and horses
move into the barns at the Farm
Show for the 16th Annual
Keystone International Livestock
Exposition.
Sponsored by the Pennsylvania
Livestock and Allied Industries
Association in cooperation with
the Pennsylvania Department of
Agriculture, the Livestock Expo
regularly attracts exhibitors
from some 30 states, Canada and
Mexico.
Some 26 breeds across four
different species will come under
the careful scrutiny of a panel
of internationally-acclaimed
hvetock judges but the beef cattle
will get the greatest attention if
for no other reason than for their
size.
The beef cattle judging is
divided into two basic types
market-ready animals and
breeding stock with the latter
beginning as early as Sunday,
November 5, 1972 in the All-
Ph. 464-2746
Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 21,1972
for Nov* 5-11
Eastern Junior Beef Breeding. 4-
H and F.F.A. members will be
showing their best heifer calves
born during 1971 in the five most
popular breeds Angus,
Charolais, Hereford, Polled
Hereford and Shorthorn.
The larger Open Breeding
Cattle Show for these same five
breeds will be conducted Tuesday
through Thursday. Polled
Shorthorn and Shorthorn will
show together as one class.
The highlight of this year’s
Open Breeding Cattle Shows will
be the judging of the Polled
Herefords which has been
designated as a Standard of
Perfection (SOP) show by the
American Polled Hereford
Association, Kansas City,
Missouri
An SOP show means judging is
done by a team rather than one
man and the premiums offered
virtually double to $lO,OOO. The
Livestock Expo management has
already noticed that the SOP
show is attracting more entries
from a broader area than in
recent years
Most of the market-ready
animal judging for beef cattle
will be conducted Monday.
Carcass steers will be judged
live on that day and evaluation of
the finished meat will be made

The Junior Steer Show, open to

will precede the Open Class Steer
Show, both on Monday. The
grand champion and reserve
grand champions of the Junior
Show will also compete later in
the day for grand champion and
reserve grand champion honors
of the Open Class Steer Show.
This is not just a token gesture as
an Indiana youngster took both
junior and open class laurels in
1971.
A feeder calf show and sale
concludes the week’s activity for
beef cattle. They’ll be judged in
lots of five on Tuesday and then
auctioned to the highest bidders
on Thursday.
