Heifers steady under a continued broad demand. Cows 75-1.00 lower in generally slow trading. Bulls steady. Feeder cattle generally steady although demand for fleshy two-way steers somewhat less aggressive forepart of week than most recent week. Four day receipts 17,900 as compared 16,900 previous week and 20,300 a year ago. Slaughter steers approximately 29 percent, heifers 35 percent, cows 9 percent and feeders near 25 percent in cluding some 3000 for Friday auction not included in above four day total. For fifth successive week fed cattle trade followed a stable course although 1150-1300 pound steers under some downward pressure in reflection of price differential which has evolved on carcass beef. Over the past five week period the average cost of slaughter steers has shown a net change of only 28 cents with the 16 pound increase in average weights mainly a consequence of the volume of two-way steers returned to feedlot for further finish.
