Saturday, October 14, 1972 20 Twin Valley Plans Visits for The October meeting of the Twin Valley Future Farmers of America was opened by president, Nevin Mast, in the Vocational Agriculture classroom using the official opening ceremonies. Under old business, the Chapter discussed having two floats in both the Elverson and the Honey Brook Halloween Parades. Themes for the floats were discussed, as were arrangements for wagons and tractors. The Chapter hopes to involve all members in making and operating these floats. It was announced that the Pumpkin Growing contest will be held October 20 in the High School gymnasium and auditorium. The pumpkins will be judged by Chapter members m the weight and circumference divisions. The most unusually shaped pumpkin category will be judged by Mrs. Holly Clevely, social science teacher. The five farms in clude: Andrew D. Stoltzfus, Elverson RD2; Paul Brubaker, Elverson RD2; Robert Kirk, Honey Brook RDI; Omar Beam, Elverson RDI, and Frank Houck, Eleverson RDI. It is hoped that the teachers will be able to see the amount of knowledge and investment required to run a modern farm. The teachers will be treated to lunch at the farm of Robert Kirk. At the next evening FFA meeting the Greenhand Ceremony will be held. Parents of Greenhands will be invited to attend A greenhand creed contest will also be held at the meeting. All Greenhands are eligible to compete, with the winner receiving a free FFA jacket from the Chapter. Senior FFA members will serve as judges. It was also decided that the Chapter should pay the expenses of the Greenhand who will represent the Chapter in the Greenhand quiz, which consists of questions on the FFA. Chapter treasurer William Ford announced that the Chapter had made 1,200 hoagies for their hoagie sale which was held September 23. Profit on the sale came to $285. This money will be used to help pay the expenses of the Pumpkin Contest. resident Mast announced that the Chapter was invited to a “Scream-In” being held by the FFA on October 26. Chapter members who wish to participate should contact Beth McDonnell, Chapter secretary. After the meeting members enjoyed a basketball game in the gym followed fay refreshments in the vo-ag shop.
