Linda High took grand champion honors
at the baby beef show held Thursday night
during the Ephrata Fair. Her winning steer

Sheep awards, by breed, were
as follows: Corriedale —
individual championship went to
Dale Sensenig, of East Earl El;
Dorset—Christian Herr had both
individual and pen of three
champions; Hampshire—Tom
Martin, Mohnton, had the in
dividual champion; Southdown—
Paul Horning showed the
champion pen of three and
Elizabeth Herr the individual
champion.
In judging of Suffolk, Elizabeth
Herr had both champion pen of
three and the individual cham
pion.
Three agricultural events were
scheduled for Thursday evening -
a pork cookout, swine show and
beef show. There were no en
trants for the pork cookout, but
the swine and beef shows drew
crowds of spectators and con
testants.
Nelson Weaver captured the
hog show grand championship
with a 230 pound Duroc. Reserve
honors were shared by Marlin
Smoker and Richard Bollinger,
who were partners on a 247 pound
Hampshire.
Marlin Bollinger showed a pair
of Yorkshires that took both
grand and reserve cham
pionships for the breed. The
Hampshire breed champion went
to Richard Bollinger, while Lloyd
Hoover took reserve.
Kerry Boyd showed the
champion Poland China, Rick
Pfautz had the reserve. The
Spotted Poland championship as
well as reserve went to Donald
Weiler.
Landrace champion honors
went to Marlin Bollinger, the
reserve prize went to Lloyd
Hoover. Nelson Weaver won the
Duroc championship and Gerald
Musser was the reserve. Weaver
also won both breed champion
and reserve for crossbreds.
The beef judging was staged
after the hog show, and a pair of
crossbred steers walked off with
the grand and reserve cham
pionships. The grand champion
of the show was a Charolais-
Angus cross by 11-year-old Linda
High, of Lancaster.
The reserve grand champion, a
1,110 pound Simmental
Charolais - Angus crossbred
steer, was shown by Nancy
Wenger, 13, of Stevens Rl.
Angus Champion
In individual breed classes at
the Ephrata show, Ron Zim
merman, Ephrata, showed the
Angus champion and Brenda
Wenger, Stevens Rl, the reserve.
Mike Martin, New Holland Rl,
had the Hereford champion and
Steve Gehman, Stevens, the
reserve.
Thirty steers were entered in
the competition, including six
EFA animals and 24, 4-H project
steers.
Conrad Grove, an Angus
breeder from Chester County,
judged the show.
Lampeter
The 48th annual West Lam
peter Community Fair officially
opened on Wednesday. A
highlight of the first day was the
baby beef show.
Two sisters, showing exotic
crossbred steers, took champion
and reserve champion honors in
the baby beef show of the West
Lampeter Community Fair,
Wednesday night.
The grand champion was
shown by Susan Herr, 14, of 840
Penn Grant Road, Lancaster.
Susan’s steer, a 4-H project,
carried a strong European an
cestry. His father was a purebred
Swiss Simmental bull and his
