SALE BY DAN S. ERB RD. 2 Columbia, Pa. Oilier & Kreider, Auctioneers. Lunch by Farm Women. Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 23,1972 (Continued On Page 30) 1:00 P.M. Sharp Twin Valley Sets Banquet Date The Twin Valley FFA Chapter held its back-to-school meeting in the vo-ag classroom of the Twin Valley High School. Chapter members were in formed that a hoagie sale will be held September 23. The Chapter voted to keep the price of haogies the same as in previous years, 50 cents. Chapter members also voted to pay half the dues of all members who sell at least 50 hoagies and all the dues of members who sell at least 75 hoagies. Dues will remain the same as last year, $2.50. Ron Smoker reported on Operation Update which was held at the Hilton Inn in Lancaster recently. Ron reported that he attended it along with Twin Valley president Nevin Mast and vice-president Terry Murray. Ron reported that National FFA Secretary Dennis Sargent and National FFA Advisor H. Neville Hunsicker (discussed the proposed changes in the FFA Constitution, Creed and Ceremonies to be voted on at the National FFA Convention in Kansas City in October. All proposed changes are designed to broaden the appeal of the FFA so that it will be more acceptable to vocational agriculture students who are studying such non-production agriculture areas as horticulture and forestry. At Lancaster, FFA members from Chapters in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey and Delaware discussed these proposed changes so that the National Officers would be aware of the feelings of local members before the National Convention vote is taken. Another important part of Operation Update was slides and discussion of outstanding Chapters throughout the United States. Terry Murray reported that the Chapter will host the weighing and measuring of pumpkins for the elementary pumpkin growing contest at the High School on Friday evening, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. A movie will be shown to the elementary students and their parents while the pumpkins are being judged. Chapter members also voted to provide ribbons for all first, second and third place winners in each of the three divisions of the contest and in each of the grade levels in addition to the monetary prizes and trophies. Ronald Smoker, Robert Stoltzfus and Jeff Boltz will serve as Chapter photographers for thecurrent school year. Members discussed the possibility of holding a seed and flower bulb sale during the current school year but no official action was taken. Terry Murray, Chapter vice president, participated in the Regional FFA Dairy Show at Harrisburg and placed second in his class of Ayrshire heifers, receiving a blue ribbon. He also received first prize for showmanship in his class. He is eligible to show in the Penn sylvania Junior Dairy Show at Harrisburg Monday, September 25. Chapter members approved the action of president Ne.m Mast in arranging for the Chapter banquet at the Elverson Fire Hall on Friday, March 2, 1973. The final item of business for the meeting was the distribution of the program of work. Members then either volunteered for or were assigned to all of the standing committees. 29
