FEED LETTE
6000 POUNDS OF MILK
VS. 12,000 LBS. OF MILK
Being too young myself, I’ll trust the reports of my
elders that a while back, Holstein cows had to run like
mad to make 6000 pounds of milk. Today some folks
claim, most Holsteins can give 15,000 pounds without
half trying. This is pretty interesting in light of the fact
that the capicity of the cow didn’t increase two and
two-thirds times what it was then. Ever wonder how a
cow can produce more milk if she can't eat more feed?
Wonder if the feeds that are available today are more
efficient than those of yesteryears? Wonder if anybody
is making feeds better than those of yesterday?
Hummm! Maybe some companies are trying right now
to make better feeds? Might not be a bad idea to check
around a little? Maybe there is something better?
KINDA MAKES A BODY WONDER, DON'T IT?

The silos are being filled this
month and I don’t have an active
part in it. Oh, I cook special
meals Tor our big boys who come
home to help their father, but
they no longer need someone to
pack the silage.
As a youngster, I remember
being sent up into the silo to
tramp the corn with my bare feet.
Round and round in the silage I
marched to pack it and guide the
pipe. We had dry years then too
as I know we added water to the
long stalks of corn as they were
fed into the cutter and blown up

Last week my daughter took
her drivers test and passed it. But
before they would give the test we
had to take a razor and scrape off
the oneinchby six inch Penn State
sticker on the back side window.
She had warned me that it had
to be removed but I just ignored
her advice. The officer was very
nice and explained that human
nature being what it is, if they
allowed one sticker, then people
would plaster more and more
over their windows until they’d
be almost covered.
In fact, I agreed with him and
told him I too was human and
since this tiny sticker had to be
removed there would be a bigger
one put in its place. He said that
was okay with him as long as we
