with exhibitors anticipated from
even more than the 28 states
represented at the Exposition
last year.
In 1971, 3,308 head of livestock
were shown in the many classes
of competition, an increase of
more than 10 percent over the
preceeding year. Closing date for
entries this year is September 30.
McHale said that an all-out
effort is being made this year to
attract both non-exhibiting
farmers and non-farmers as
visitors to the exposition.
In addition to having all events
open to the public at no charge,
much of the activity is
specifically directed to exposition
visitors. Sunday, November 5, is
billed as “Family Afternoon at
the Expo.” Most judging does not
get underway until the following
morning, but visitors will be able
to see the feverish, last-minute
grooming given to the animals
before they’re put in the ring.
Cattle must be washed, sheep
sheared and some swine
producers are known to have
attempted to make their charges
smell sweeter.
