from the record exports of $8.05
billion in fiscal 1972, Secretary of
Agriculture Earl L. Butz said last
week. Farm commodities ex
ported in 1971-72 required the
output of 1 out of every 5 acres
harvested, or 65 million acres of
U.S. cropland. These exports of
farm products represented about
a seventh of total farm income.

“Ten States accounted for $4.6
billion or 57 percent of U.S.
agricultural exports,” Secretary
Butz noted.
Pennsylvania ranks 35th
among the 50 states in the value
of farm exports, according to the
report.

more than half of the U.S.
production of rice and soybeans;
two-fifths of the wheat, cattle
