Mrs. J. Clayton Sangrey led the devotions. Mrs. Graybill Hollinger, president, announced that the Farm Women Camp at Swatara will be held from August 26 through August 28. Any member interested should contact Mrs. Daniel Brubaker. The members will fold Christmas Seals from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, October 14 at the Health and Welfare Center. were barefooted all summer. We had to walk almost one-half mile on a cinder road to take our cows to the pasture. Even then, some of the fields didn’t have good fences and we would have to run on those sharp black cinders to keep the cows out of the corn fields. One day I was standing beside our old horse “Ben” when he stepped on my bare foot. I simply hollered until my father had to come and move him. And, I was told how stupid I’d been not to back him off my foot. Another time, when I was picking up potatoes, I stepped on a field mouse and can still remember how it wiggled under my bare foot. Nowadays one is tempted to feel that more bare feet walk only on concrete, tile or rugs, xxx When we started a new strawberry patch this summer Cindy picked up a small limestone and told me it was a “wishing stone”. She explained to me that it had a white streak completely through it. I’d never heard this before, but I guess it is as good a way as any other to start a new superstition. Society 19 Farm Women Society 19 in stalled two new members at its August meeting. Newly installed members are Misses Irene and Ruth Heisey. Mrs. Kenneth Warfel, president, announced plans for the Society to serve with the Tuberculosis and Health Society in October by folding Christmas seals. The Lancaster County Con vention will be held November 4 at the Lancaster School of the Bible. During a recent meeting held at the Landisville Church of God 102 cancer dressings were sewed as a volunteer service. Mrs John Ruhl and Mrs. David Yoder were in charge.
