She, her sister and her father went to the Art Center in Lan caster every Saturdy for awhile. They painted with Mr. Dnesbach of Allentown and learned a lot. Her father only started to paint when he was in his sixties He had a heart attack and afterward she took him to art class She says her father, her sister and she all paint differently. She says “I’m refinishing furniture now I’ve done a lot of antiques.” She has quite a few pieces of antique furniture, picture frames and pretty dishes which have come down in the family Thelma says “I love to sew.” She had only one year of 4-H sewing and one year in Home Economics in high school but has learned to sew very well. She made her own drapes and cur tains, most of her own clothes, even all her coats. She knits and crochets. She crocheted one afghan and one tablecloth and either knit or crocheted a lot of sweaters She has embroidered and done needlepoint also but doesn’t care much for that She quilts. She has her grandmother’s quilting frames and is ready to put her fourth one in the frames. Each of her children will get one She drew a grape design for a trapunto patch which she is working on The grapes are done in two shades of purple and the leaves in two shades of green. Her herb garden is in background along the back of her house. she has a loom so now she wants to learn to spin and weave. Thelma is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry F. Shank of Long Lane, Lancaster R D. 6. She grew up on their 115 acre farm in East Drumore Township where her father lived for 64 years. Mr. Shank was a railway postal clerk besides being a farmer His father and his son, Eugene, also helped with the farm work. Eugene is a mailman at Quarryville and lives on the edge of the old farm where he grew up. Thelma also has another brother, Dr. James Shank, a dentist in Lititz. The Weavers bought the home farm from Thelma’s parents five years ago and converted the greater part of it into a cam pground for tourists and vacationers. It is situated IVz miles east of Route 222 on Black burn Road which is about four miles south of Quarryville. The campground has 175 camp sites, each with hookups with running water and electricity and they have a central dumping station for sewage. All the camp sites have shade, most of them are deep in the woodland. There are also spaces for tents. They have a bath house with hot showers, toilets, a laundry with washers and driers, an ice machine, a store, a Pizza barn, and a pavilion where Rev. Murray Wagner conducts wor ship services every Sunday at 10 a.m. Every Saturday night they have entertainment such as a film, music or a dance in the pavilion. They have outdoor shuffleboard courts, horseshoe courts, bicycle to rent and beautiful trails in the woods. (They also have a horse barn with four horses.) Many families park their campers there and go there weekends and vacations. Many people prefer the quiet location away from traffic. Yes, people use the campground all year. They go skiing and sledding there in wintertime.
