Nearly ten years of testing and farm ex
perience have taught us that there are
many sides to the question of which
type of finishing facility is best for the
hog producer. Many producers favor the
open-front, gravity ventilation type of fa
cility. We have all the Big Dutchman
equipment necessary for the open-front
facility. Other producers favor a total
environmental control finishing facility
Such a facility provides greater control of
the hog’s environment, whatever the cli
matic conditions outside, through the Big
Dutchman Evap-O-Pad ventilation system
and the use of partial slats.

Earl Haldeman, Mount Joy,
was second in contour plowing,
and Larry Brubaker,
Elizabethtown, was third.
In the tractor driving contest,
Dudley Rohrer, Manheim, took
first place with an unusually good
performance. “We were
amazed,” said one judge, “at the
way he drove that John Deere
tractor around the course. He
hardly made any mistakes.”
Dudley is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Daniel Rohrer. He will represent
the county during 4-H State Days
at Penn State, August 7-9
Lloyd Hoover, Garden Spot,
captured top honors in the land
judging contest. Gerald Musser,
Ephrata, came in second, Tom
Martin, Garden Spot, placed
third, and Mike Roland, Solanco,
was fourth.
A greased pig chase was held
after all the other activities. John
Groff, Lititz, was the lucky prize
