Hinkle and Sensenig, clerks. Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July 29,1972 As I take my daughter to driver education each morning, I see over 100 cars in the parking lots. And many mothers are busy dropping off younger children for art, music, typing and make-up courses. Many of us probably don’t realize to what degree schools really do operate all year long. Our school district has many recreational facilities also. There are several swimming classes for all ages. There are craft classes and meetings for retired citizens. There are wrestling programs and tennis tournaments. There are teen dances and family movies. The taxes are high but many services are offered and available. XXX On our recent trip into New York we visited the town of New Paltz which contains the oldest street in America The stone houses on Huguenot Street were built from 1692 to 1705 and replaced log cabins built in 1677 The Lefevre house is furnished with great chests brought with them from France and primitive tables from their earliest days One interesting little item was a miniature yoke which we were told was used to bind together two wild geese Boys managed to catch wild geese and then kept them with the domestic ones m this manner until they became tame. This was to improve their breeding stock. Seeing these houses is an educational experience and shows us the industry and in dependence of the founders xxx We’ve been enjoying the green beans and wax beans from our neighbors Mahnda’s and Rachel’s gardens as ours were ripped out in the flood. We ap preciated their concern and were able to share our blueberry harvest with them.
