    Eleven Countians Win at Annual 4-H
Demonstration and Public Speaking Day
The Annual Lancaster County H’ers will be entered in the with other 4-H’ers from the 13
4-H Demonstration and Public District Demonstration and Southeast counties.
Speaking Day was held last week Public Speaking competition at County Junior Demonstration
at the Farm and Home Center. As Owen J. Roberts High School winners, 9to 13 years of age, gave
a result of this competition, 11 4- Wednesday, July 19, competiting seven to 10 minute demon
strations. Winners included:
Martha Gregory, Lititz RDI,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Gregory, “Good Packing Good
Eating”; Anita Burkholder,
Ephrata RD2, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Burkholder,
“Make Your Own”; Robin King,

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
King, ‘‘Playful Pals”, and
Maribeth Schaeffer, 130 Ridge
Ave., Ephrata, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Schaeffer, “A
Good Tasting Tuna Salad”.
Senior Demonstration County
winners, 13 to 19 years of-age,
presented 10 to 15 minute
demonstrations. Winners were:

Speaking contest, for 14 to 19 year
olds, contestants were required
to speak for five to seven
minutes Winner in this category
was Suzanne Groff, Quarryville
RD3, with her presentation “4-H
Why, Where 9 ”
Judges for the annual 4-H event
were Mrs Mary Myers, home
economist with PP&L; Robyn
Moyer, conservationist with the
Lancaster County Soil and Water
Conservation District, and
Donald Robinson, Young Farmer
advisor at Garden Spot High
School
At the District Demonstration
and Public Speaking Day, judges
from Lancaster County will in
clude Extension personnel, Mrs
Robert Gregory, Lititz RDI, Mrs
Bonnie Miller, UGI,, and Roy
Seger, Lancaster Mrs. Irene
Smith will serve as room
chairman.

Rough Riders
Hold Contest
The Rough Riders 4-H Horse
and Pony Club held their local
grooming anti showmanship
competition Wednesday, July 5.
The club met at the home of Mrs.
Jane Groff in Quarryville.
In the Junior Division Carol
Stinson took first place with 99
out of 100 points. Heidi Bailey was
second with 92 and John Able was
third with 91.
In the Senior Division, winning
with 100 points was Nancy
Henkel. Second was Candy Groff
with 96 points, and Lynn Hart
took third with 89 points
The judge for this competition
was Mr John Click.

Merri-Maids 4-H Club
Sees Demonstrations
The Strasburg Merri-Maids
Sewing and Cooking Club met
Monday, July 10 at the Martin
Mylin High School.
President Joyce Houser led in
the Club Pledge and roll call was
answered by each member
givmg their favorite expression.
Highlights of the one-week 4-H
exchange trip to Michigan in
June were given by Kathy Hinkel
and Sue Groff.
Demonstrations were given by
Sherrie Shaffer and Sandy
Weaver on “How to make Pins”,
and Joy Harnish and Ann
Reinhart on “How to make
Refreshing and Delicious Milk
Shakes.”
