Group Discusses OSHA
The 30-member National
Advisory Committee on Safety in
Agriculture met recently and
gave priority attention to
discussion of progress and
problems to date in im
plementing the provisions of the
Occupational Safety and Health
Act (OSHA) of 1&70.
Committee Chairman J. Phil
Campbell, Under Secretary of
Agriculture, led the group in a
frank discussion of the act and
new and developing safety
standards for agricultural
workers.

Improved communications
to farmers and their employees
concerning the OSHA and safety
standards;
—Make sure that the new
safety standards and the stan
dards yet to be developed have a
high degree of acceptability to
farm people who must live with
them, both farmers and em
ployees;
—Gather injury and mortality
statistics, insofar as possible, on
farm family members in addition

—Make sure that all farmers
get accident reporting forms and
other information on OSHA in
adequate time to comply with the
Act;
—Do whatever can be done to
protect farmers who may be
cited for violations because of
careless acts of employees that
may occur despite the farmers

spirit of the act; and
