    Clashing Thimbles
4-H Club Officers
Officers were elected during
the first meeting of the Penn
Manor Clashing Thimbles. They
are as follows;
Jo Ann Metzgar, president;
Linda Leaman, vice-president;
Kris Stehman, secretary; Cindy
Schwar and Lou Leaman, song
leaders; Cindy Smith and Nancy
Econrod, game leaders; Brenda
Baleor, treasurer; Vickie Siglin,
news reporter.
In the sewing club this year,
there are six first-year, seven
second-year, five third-year, two
fourth-year, two fifth-year, two
sixth-year, and one free lance,
members.
The second meeting of Penn
Manor Clashing Thimbles was
called to order by Jo Ann Met
zgar as she led in the 4-H Pledge.
The secretary called the roll. The
minutes were read and approved.
Under new business, County
Council representatives were
discussed but none were elected.
The meeting was adjourned and
members went into work groups.

Broken Bit Club
Plans Gymkhanna
The June meeting of the Broken
Bit Horse and Pony Club was held
at the home of Club member
Cindy Enck, Stevens.
The Club held a business
meeting. President Natalie
Immel called the meeting to
order and led the Club in
repeating the 4-H Club Pledge.
The reports of the secretary
and treasurer were given and
approved. Debra Gregory
reported on events planned by the
Lancaster 4-H County Council
The Club discussed the Open
Horse Show they held June 17
The Club made plans for their
Gymkhanna to be held July 9
Dates for the Club trips to New
Bowlton Center and Cow Town
Rodeo were set.
The next meeting will be held
July 9 following the Gymkhanna.

Demonstration Day,
Speaking Contests
Planned Thursday
County Demonstration Day and
the annual 4-H Public Speaking
Contest will be held at 1 p.m.
Thursday, July 6 at the Farm and
Home Center.
To be eligible to enter the
demonstration contest, entrants
in the junior division must be 9
through 13 years of age, or 14
years of age as of January l of the
current year to qualify for the
senior division. One year of club
work must be completed, and
entrant must be enrolled in or
have previously completed the
project or activity which relates
to the demonstration. The
demonstration may be given by
an individual or two-member
team, seven to 10 minutes for
junior division, 10 to 15 minutes
for senior division.
Demonstration classes include
such areas as automotive,
baking, clothing, dairy, forestry,
horses, general livestock,
photography, poultry, safety,
small engines, tractor, wildlife
management, and many others.
Rules for the public speaking
contest include: senior public
speaking, individual 14 to 19
years of age, speaking five to
seven minutes; junior public
speaking, individual nine to 13
years of age, three to five
minutes. Brief notes may be
used, no illustrative materials
are acceptable. A typewritten
outline of the talk is to be sub
mitted to the judges.
The speech must deal with one
of the following topics: “4-H Why,
Where?”; “The Values of
Leadership”; “Steps Toward a
Better 4-H Program”; “How 4-H
Contributes to Good Citizen
ship”; “How Much Education Do
I Need?”; “4-H Goes In
ternational”; “What Has 4-H
Done for Me, My Home or My
Community?”; “Our Role in
Public Affairs (with a focus on
Health, Safety Recreation or
Conservation).”

Cooking Club
The Mount Joy Busy Bakers
second and third year Cooking
Club has elected its officers It is
part of the 4-H program at St.
Mark’s Church.

The club is open to girls who
will be 10 years old or over by

have a basic knowledge of

Sewing Club
The Mount Joy Second and
Third year 4-H Sewing Club met
Tuesday for its. second work
meeting at St. Mark’s United
Methodist Church.
The second year girls are
making cullotte skirts. They put
in the darts and stay stitching.
The third year girls stay stit
ched, and started putting zippers
in their jumpers.

and spraying sows before they

shiver, they need more heat.
