Seven County Youth Attending Institute Seven local youth have been named winners in the Cooperative Business Education Program sponsored by the Lancaster Council of Farmer Cooperatives and will represent this area at the Pennsylvania Association of Farmer Cooperatives Summer Institute Boots and Saddles Holds Meeting The Boots and Saddles 4-H Horse and Pony Club held its June meeting at the home of Vickie and Sue Zipperlein, Landis Valley Road. President Jim Watts called the meeting to order and lead the 4-H Club Pledge. Secretary Robin Fellenbaum called the roll. There were 41 members present. The secretary and treasurer’s reports were read and approved. The club will hold its next Gymkhanna July 8, at which the grooming and showmanship winners will be chosen to com pete in the Lancaster County Horse and Pony Roundup July 22 at the Lancaster Riding Club Grounds. The next meeting will be held at the home of Cheryl Gernert, Manheim. Plans have been made to have Dr. Awkerman, a veterinarian from Manheim, speak and show slides. After the meeting was ad journed Vickie Zipperlein and Darlene McClain gave a demonstration on clipping the horse. Mrs. Zipperlein served refreshments to members and parents. Main Office N. Those chosen to attend the Institute are: Richard Bollinger, Lititz RD4, Lynn Groff, Ephrata RD3; Wayne Kreider, Quarryville RDI; Lamar Long, East Earl RDI; Michael Martin, New Holland RDI, and Delmar Weaver, New Holland RDI, first year scholars. Debra Gregory, Lititz RDI, agribusiness ex plorer, will return to the Institute as a second-year scholar. Winners were selected on the basis of their knowledge of the cooperative way of doing business and on activities of the participants identifying them with school, community, church, and youth organizations. The group will be accompanied to Shippensburg by Jay W. Irwin, associate Lancaster County agriculture agent, who will act as chaperone and resource person for the delegation. Mount Joy Sewing Club The Mount Joy third year 4-H Sewing Club started its first work meeting Tuesday. The meeting was held at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. The girls are making jumpers this - year. They started their jumpers by pinning the patterns onto the material and cutting them out. Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 24,1972 The Institute program is designed to teach youth more about the business enterprise system in America, to help them in planning their future by pointing out career possibilities in agribusiness, and provide opportunities for individual leadership development. Approximately 225 young adults, representing over 4,000 participants in the annual P.A.F.C. youth education program, will attend the four-day event. The Institute is a joint effort of the Pennsylvania Association of Farmer Cooperatives, local coop council, and the College of Agriculture at Penn State University. The monthly meeting of the Rough Riders 4-H Horse and Pony Club was held at the home of Thomas S Bailey, Christiana. During the meeting Lynn Hart and Hope Bailey gave a demonstration on western riding. Also Lynn Hart and Heidi Bailey gave a demonstration on how to saddle a horse using western type tack. The Club plans to hold its local grooming and showmanship competition July 5 at Mrs. Jane Groff’s residence in Quarryville. The members are planning an over-night trail ride July 15 and 16 at Norman Hart’s in Tayloria. County Roundup will be held June 22.
