Boots and Saddles 4-H Club
Announces Gymkhanna Winners
The Boots and Saddles 4-H
Horse and Pony Club held its
second gymkhanna Sunday at the
Columbia Riding grounds. There
were 38 members showing their
horses and ponies.
The winners are as follows
Junior grooming and
showmanship, Cindy Burkey,
“Queenie”; senior grooming and
showmanship, Deb Heidig, “Miss
Frosty Sox”; pony barrel race,
Lashon Bussell, “Stardust”;
horse barrel race, Ray Carmean,
“Mindy”; pony driving, Doug
Fellenbaum, “Tootsie Roll”.
Junior western equitation,

Holds Talent Show
The Penn Willows 4-H Club held
its third monthly meeting last
week at the Pequea Elementary
School.
Following the business meeting
the club held its annual talent

show. The show included things
like skits and plays to members
playing solos and duets on the
piano, flute, and saxaphone.
The last activity was a midget
queen contest. Pam Cass was
selected queen after various
competitions took place.
Members of the cast were
invited to the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Martin after the
talent show for refreshments.
The next meeting will be a
splash party at the Conestoga
Pool from 8 to 10 p.m. on July 14.

Strawberry
Roundap
A total of nine luscious entries
were a part of the annual 4-H
Strawberry Roundup Thursday
at the Farm and Home Center,
sponsored by the Lancaster
Rotary Club. Entries included
three sets of brothers and sisters.
Berries exhibited by Richard
Yunginger, Marietta RDI, were
named grand champions of the
show. These berries were later
sold to Rotary Club president
Samuel M. Aldoerffer for $5 a
quart.
Reserve champion
strawberries were exhibited by
Pamela Nissley RDI. Third place
winner was Kevin Ulrich,
Ephrata RDI. Berries from these
two exhibits later sold for $2 and
$3 a quart to Rotary members.
Other 4-H’ers exhibiting
strawberries were; Mary
Yunginger, Marietta RDI; Dale
Ulrich, Ephrata RDI; Venessa
and Teressa Walter, Ephrata
RDI; Dwight Houser, Lampeter,
and John Shenk, Lititz RD3.
Amos Funk, Millersville RDI,
served as judge for the annual
event.
Merri-Maid
Club Meets
The Merri-Maid 4-H Sewing
and Cooking Club was called to
order by the president, Joyce
Houser.
The cooking group made carrot
cookies and treated the group.
The sewing girls cut out their
garments.
The next meeting will be held
from 12:30 to 3 p.m July 10 at the
Martin Mylin Junior High School.
The following girls will give
demonstrations; Sandy Weaver,
Sherri Sheaffer, Joy Hamish and
Ann Reinhart.

Club Names
Show Champs
The Rough Riders 4-H Horse
and Pony Club held its annual
Horse Show last Saturday at the
Lancaster Riding Club grounds.
Three championship awards
were presented. The winners of
these awards were;
English Beth Brewer,
champion; Nancy Henkel,
reserve.
Western Renee Wenger,
champion; Karen Bleacher,
reserve.
Game Horse Shirley Craig,
champion; Randy Glick, reserve.
The Rough Riders 4-H Club
members hope the show was
enjoyable for all who par
ticipated.

Elizabethtown
Pig and Rabbit
4-H Club Meets
The Elizabethtown Area Pig
and Rabbit Club meeting started
with a baseball game at Fairview
School. Team number two had a
big win.
After the game the members
walked to a neighboring barn for
the meeting. It was called to
order by Scott Heisey, president.
The members signed a card
thanking Samuel Brubacker for
the use of the barn and for the
refreshments.
The meeting was adjourned,
after which members talked to
leaders about projects.
