International Farm Show
To be Held in Minnesota
Farmers from all parts of the
world will be coming to Vernon
Center, Minnesota, September 11
-17 to see and compete in the 1972
World Ploughing Contest, which
will be one of the many features
of Farmfest, U.S.A., an in
ternational farm show.
Competitors expected from all
corners of the world include
representatives from Africa,
Eastern Europe and the South
Pacific. Farmfest - U.S.A. was
designated as an international
trade show by the U.S. Depart
ment of Commerce and the U.S.
Treasury.
The opening four days, Sep
tember 11 -14, will feature the
Grand National Tractor Pull in
which 250 souped-up tractors will
compete for over $20,000 in
prizes. Forty-five national
champions from 24 nations will
compete in the 19th World
Ploughing Contest on September
15th and 16th.

Ploughing Organization is
dedicated to promoting peace
and brotherhood among the
ploughmen of the world. To
commemorate the site of each
year’s World Ploughing Contest,
a monument to peace is built.
Other farmfest attractions will
include big name entertainers
and political candidates.
Traditionally, presidential
candidates deliver a farm
platform at plowing contests in
election years and show officials
are hopeful that the 1972 can
didates will be no exception.
On September 15, the Air Force
Thunderbirds will perform aerial
acrobatics over the Farmfest
site. On other days, horse pulling
and plowing contests will be held.
Trade will be a major aspect of
the event with over 300
manufacturers showing their
wares on 65 acres of exhibit
space. Among the 300 exhibits
will be a number of Canadian,

Japanese, Swedish, and German
firms.
The U.S. Department of
Agriculture, in a 10,000 foot
exhibit, will feature the role the
department plays in selling U.S.
products abroad.
Actual demonstrations of farm
machinery will be held daily as
new models are tested on over 700
acres of crop land.
While farmers are looking at
machinery, farm wives will be in
a 2,000 seat Farm & Home Center
watching cooking demon
strations, fashion shows, and
craft lessons.
“Vinegar Bible”
An edition of the English
Bible printed in 1716 is
known as the “Vinegar
Bible” because a printer’s
error made in the parable
of the vineyard substituted
the word “vinegar” for
“vineyard.”
