Over 250 guests witnessed the pageant in which the daughters of 12 local dairy farmers participated. Miss Book’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Book, R.D. 1, Ronks. They have a herd of 125 Holsteins. Runner up in the contest was Rhoda Stauffer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stauffer, R.D. 1, Ephrata. The title of Miss Congeniality was won by Sharon Kreider, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Kreider, Jr., R.D. 3, Manheim. She is chairman of the Princess Committee. A panel of judges interviewed each of the contestants during the day, watched the girls answer questions of master of ceremonies Harry Kauffman, and announced their decision shortly after 10:00 p.m Kauffman is director of public relations for the Philadelphia Dairy Council. Judges were Joyce (Mrs. Marlin) Shenk, 1962 Lancaster County Dairy Prin cess, Boyd Gartley, farm relations director for Inter-State Milk Producers, Philadelphia, and Richard Wanner, editor of Lancaster Farming. Miss Book will represent the County in the state contest at Harrisburg in September. And she will be making public ap pearances throughout the year on behalf of the dairy industry. Miss Book is a 1972 graduate of Conestoga Valley High School where she was a member of the honor society. She is employed as a secretary by Nolt Rambler, Inc. Rhoda Stauffer, runner-up, is a senior at Ephrata High School. She is active is sports programs and plans to attend college, majoring in physical education, after graduating from high school. . Miss Congeniality, Sharon Kreider, is a junior at Manheim Central High School. She’ll spend this summer working in the family dairy store, which celebrated a grand opening yesterday. Kettering, (ContinuedOn Page 7) Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 17,1972 Grassland Chapter Awards Presentations Special awards were presented to FFA members during the monthly meeting of the Grassland FFA Chapter meeting Monday night Michael Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs Robert E. Martin, New Holland RDI, received the Victor F. Weaver FFA scholarship award from Allen Tate. This award is presented annually to an outstanding student in the field of poultry. As part of the Poultry Man of the Year requirements, Martin wrote and submitted an essay. He received a $2OO cash prize. Keystone Farmer ‘citations were presented to four students. Receiving citations were: Nelson Martin sonof Mr. and Mrs Clyde Martin, East Earl; Carl Musser, son of Mr and Mrs David Musser, Mohnton, Gary Stauffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Stauffer, Vogensville, and Dale Weiler, son of Mr. and Mrs Mervin Weiler, Elverson. The Leon M. Gray bill Memorial Scholarship was presented to Dale Weiler by Mr. Stan Dean This award is presented for outstanding leadership, scholarship, and character. Clifford Day, FFA advisor, presented the DeKalb Achievement award to Nelson Michael Martin, left, accepts a plaque and a check from Allen Tate in recognition of his having received the annual Victor F.
