Egg Industry Posts
Pennsylvania is moving to
improve its position as the fifth
leading egg producer in the
nation, according to figures
released by the Pennsylvania
Crop Reporting Service.
April egg production in the
state was 314,000,000, a nine
percent increase over the same
month a year ago while total egg
production in the U.S. remained
the same.
Other indicators that point to a
record production year are the
increase of eggs per layer in
Hefty April Gain
April, 1972 over last April, 3.6 per
cent, and the rate of lay per 100
chickens on May 1, up six per
cent from the preceding year.
Not only has efficiency in
creased but the size of the
Commonwealth flock is also up
nearly five per cent to 15,759,000.
Bad news for the farmer in the
face of all this productivity is that
he is now being paid six cents per
dozen less than he was a year
ago.
