First Tractor Pull
A total of 50 tractors competed
in the first of three summer
tractor pulling contests spon
sored by Rough and Tumble
Tractor Pull Association. This
was the first completely local
tractor pull.
The Pull was run under the
Pennsylvania Tractor Pulling
Association Inc. point rules.
Winners in each class were as

DES Findings Reported
The U.S. Department of
Agriculture reported finding
diethylstilbestrol (DES) residues
in two meat samples analyzed by
the Federal meat and poultry
inspection program.
One liver containned 2.85 parts
per billion of DES residue. This
sample was from a dairy cow
presented for slaughter in
Colorado. The second liver
sample, from a steer presented
for slaughter in Minnesota,
contained 1.1 parts per billion of
DES. No residues were found in
muscle tissue.

Keep power tools clean.
This is more of a problem
with outdoor tools. The ac
cumulation of clippings and
dirt not only makes for less
efficient use but for rust.
Wipe off cutting edges and
coat with a light film of oil.
Remove clippings from the
underside of the lawn mow
er housing. Keep belts and
chains free of dirt and grass
clippings.
Clean off any rust as soon
as you notice it. Metal sur
faces should be sanded and
painted with a rust-resistant
enamel. Use a coating of oil
where the metal cannot be
painted.

drive a pump in the Ejector’s
hydraulic system. Oil is diverted
to a hydraulic cylinder which lifts
the throwing pan to deliver bales to
