demand failed to secure full
needs to operate more than part
time. Trade advices indicate
slightly increased offerings
expected later on in June. Of
fenngs of heavy type hens barely
adequate for a fair call. Prices
paid at farm. Light Type Hens 5-

Dept, of Agriculture has made a
good investment in the operation
of these Random Facilities and
that every consumer benefits
from the improved efficiencies
from the Test Facility. Eggs are
one of nature’s most perfect
protein foods, being high in the
essential vitamins and minerals.
Participating in the dedication
was William Minnich from the
Pa Dept, of Agriculture. The
Random Facilities are operated
by the Dept, of Agriculture with
E J. Lawless, Chief of the Poultry
and Egg Division, in charge of
the testing program. E. V.
Hammers, a Penn State poultry
graduate, who worked for the
Department as a hatchery and
poultry breeder flock inspector
for many years, assumed the
responsibility of manager of the
facility several months ago.
Hammers replaced -JRiuf Turek
who March. Mr Turek
iiad been manager of the old Egg
Laying Contest for 30 years,
before it was changed over to the
Random Sample Test. These new
Facilities replace the old Lay
Test Facilities in Harrisburg.

the traits measured are feed
conversion, interior egg quality,
egg size, shell thickness, per
centage of egg production,
mortality, and number of days to
maturity. Mr. Hammers
demonstrated how they measure
for interior egg quality using both
the specific gravity test and
measuring albumin height with a
micrometer.
Prior- to the dedication, the
poultry men visited the poultry
Research Facilities on the Penn
State Campus at University
Park. Dr. Glenn Bressler, in
charge of Poultry Management
research, conducted a tour
through his Poultry Waste
JJandlinft.Facility. Also included
was a tour to a remodeled facility
where broiler breeding flocks are
housed on different types of
floors

Beginning the activities of the day at Rough and
Tumble last Saturday was official weighing-in.
This was part of the action Saturday at Rough and
Tumble Saturday at the first tractor pull of the season.
A large crowd of onlookers enjoyed the days event.

to reduce stocks prior to the
holiday weekend. Local

export channels, dull locally.
Carton demand ranges light to
