Closing prices slaughter steers
25-50 c higher with best demand
for Choice and Prime and many
of these at the full advance.
Heifers 50c higher under broad
demand in active trading. Cows
closed mostly steady higher.
Four day total 19,500 as com
pared 17,500 previous week and
22,900 year ago. Slaughter steers
approximately 38 per cent,
heifers 41 per cent, fairly liberal
percentage Choice and moderate
volume High-Choice and Prime,
cows 9 per cent and feeders 8 per
cent. Marketings expanded over
previous week but much better
distributed over trading period
than previous week. Price ad
vance on fed cattle a reflection of
higher prices on carcass beef at
wholesale level. One major
packer out of market with labor
difficulties which were settled
late in week, but there was a
continued broad demand for
cattle to be slaughtered at points
outside the immediate Omaha
area. Feeder buyers continued to
compete aggressively for fleshy
two-way steers.
