Omaha Cattle
Thursday, April 21
Compared with last weeks
close slaughter steers closed
mostly 25c higher after part of an
early upturn had been erased.
Average-Choice to Prime hefiers
were strong to 25c higher under a
good demand, other heifers
steady. Cows sold strong to 50c
higher, bulls firm instances 50c
higher. The small feeder supply,
mainly fleshy two-way steers
were strong to 50c higher.
Four day receipts 19,400 as
compared 18,900 previous week
and 20,400 year ago. Slaughter
steers made up approximately 42
per cent, and heifers 40 per cent,
a rather large showing Choice
and moderate volume High-
Choice and Prime. Cows 10 per
cent and feeders little more than
5 per cent. Fed cattle registered
modest price upturns on weeks
initial session as a reflection of
strength on carcass beef. Trading
slowed later, however, as
wholesale prices weakened and
buyers sought to keep live prices
in line with carcass realizations.
Demand was further tempered,
especially on steers, by labor
