Four States Declared Cholera-Free
Four States—Virginia, Min
nesota, Arkansas, and Missouri—
are being declared hog cholera
free, the U.S. Department of
Agriculture (USDA) reports.
Virginia became the 37th hog
cholera-free State, after being

Now you can easily stop this infestation as larvae
hatch. One application of new Jolt granules at time
of planting controls rootworms resistant to other chem
icals, as well as non-resistant rootworms, throughout
the growing season.
Free-flowing Jolt granules are easy to apply. At the
rate of 5 to 7 pounds per acre in a 7-inch band over
the row, Jolt mixes with the top half inch of soil.
Do not apply Jolt in the seed furrow.
Jolt moves with moisture through the soil, kills on
contact. It leaves no harmful residue, can be used on
any corn including silage.
Cost? About $2.50 to $3.50 an acre. So no need for

By June, it’s too late if you count 10 worms per
plant, because 8 to 10 per plant cause serious damage.
Where corn follows com, resistant rootworm buildup may
reach a count of 120 worms per plant!

Certificates recognizing the
achievements, signed by
Secretary of Agriculture Earl L.
Bute, are being presented in the
respective States by officials of
USDA’s Animal and Plant Health
Service (APHS), which ad
ministers the eradication
program.
