Ready-to-cook movement fair
but less aggressive than last
week. Slaughter schedules about
steady overall. Less than trucklot
prices unchanged on both Plant
and U.S. Grade A. Advance in
terest slow in developing. Live
supplies adequate with weights
still lighter than desired at some
plants. Undertone slightly un
settled to steady. Pool trucklot
prices for Thursday arrival in the
New York area: U.S. Grade A 29-
32, M 29-29%; Plant Grade 28-30,
M 28-28%.

Wholesale prices mostly un
changed to lower on large and
mediums, unchanged on cartons.
Receipts moderate with in
creased arrivals of previously
held large. Floor stocks ample
and in slight excess of current
call. Buying interest light to no
better than fair on top grades,
good on lesser quality. Carton
demand fair at best on current
movement, holding at good levels
for later delivery.

Closing prices on slaughter
steers were unevenly 25-75 C lower
as feeder buyers demand af
forded some support to Good and
Low-Choice 950-1050 pound
shortfeds, well finished 1200-1300
pound steers often shared the full
decline. Heifers closed 50-75 C
lower. Cows were 50-75 C higher
and bulls 50-1.00 higher, feeder
cattle sold mostly steady with the
supply predominantly fleshy two
way steers.
For the third successive week
closing prices on slaughter steers
and heifers were lower than at
the end of the previous period.
Trading was often slow as the
bearish effects of a depressed
carcass trade were reflected in.a
cautious attitude by buyers.
Demand generally geared for
requirements of minimum
slaughter quotas. Overall finish
steers and heifers not par
ticularly attractive most days
with a predominance Good to
Average-Choice. Steers ap
proximately 39 per cent including
long string bought-to-arrive.
