Manheim Young Farmer Chapter Holds Banquet
The Manheim Young Farmer
Association held its annual
banquet Friday evening, March
10 in the Manheim Central High
School cafeteria with 235 persons
attending.
The banquet committee was
comprised of Ben Molt, chair
man, Luke Brubaker, Russ
Adamire and Elam Bollinger.
Dale Hershey, Chapter
president, served as toastmaster
for the evening. During awards
presentations, Hershey was
presented a Pennsylvania Young
Farmer pin by Jay Foreman,
president of the State Young
Farmer Association.
Four Chapter members were
recognized for high corn grain
yields during 1971. Receiving a
silver platter for his first place
yield of 197 bushels per acre was
Luke Brubaker, Mount Joy RDI.
Other corn grain winners
receiving trophies were: Wayne
Miller, Mount Joy RDI, 156
bushels per acre, second; Ben
Nolt, Manhiem RDI, 154 bushels
per acre, third, and Norman
Sauder, Lititz RD2, 142 bushels
per acre.
Receiving trophies in corn
silage competition was Wilmer
Esbenshade, first with 7,606
TDN, and Henry Shenk, second.
A Curtis artificial breeding
service was presented by Clifford
Gibble to Elam Bollinger for
having the high Chapter DHIA
average in 1971. His herd of 42.8

head of Registered Holsteins
produced 15,623 pounds of milk
and 587 pounds of butterfat.
Noah J. Fuhrman, Manheim
Central High School principal,
was made an Honorary Young
Farmer member. Fuhrman was
cited for his years of service to
Young Farmers in the Manheim
area.
Leadership awards were
presented to Jay Foreman, State
Young Farmers president;
Donald Hershey, State Region II
vice president, and Clarence
Keener, State Outstanding Young
Farmer.
In comments made by Jess
Erway, Manheim Young Farmer
advisor, the Manheim Chapter
was cited for high leadership
ability and future resources for
leadership. Recognized as past
State officers were: Vince
Becker, secretary; Forney
Longenecker, two years as public
relations director and one year as
president; Jay Rohrer, two years
as public relations director; Paul
Kline, president; Jay Foreman,
two years as public relations
director and presently serving as
president, and Donald Hershey,
serving as Region II vice
president.
Ben Nolt, Manheim RDI, and
Paul Kline, Lititz RDI, received
awards for their outstanding
services to the Chapter. A plaque
was given to advisor Erway by
Ronald Kline in appreciation for
with 197 bushels per acre; Wayne Miller,
156 bushels, second; Ben Noit, 154
bushels, third, and Norman Sauder, 142
bushels, fourth. Receiving the corn silage
award with 7,606 TDN was Wilmer
Esbenshade, far right.
