State Okays $1 Million Waste
Treatment Plant at Victor Weaver’s
Victor F. Weaver, Inc. and
Subsidiaries have received
permission from the Penn
sylvania Department of En
vironmental Resources to
proceed with the construction of a
tertiary water treatment facility,
along with authorization to treat
and discharge industrial wastes.
The permit received by Weaver
is the final step toward the
completion of a total water
treatment facility, designed to
handle exclusively the com
pany’s industrial wastes.
The project started in the fall of
1970 with the upgrading of the
company’s pre-treatment
facilities.
In early spring 1971 a treat
ment building was constructed
along South Custer Avenue to
house additional equipment,
holding tanks, and screening
devises, in order to throughly
screen out as much wastes as
possible prior to entering the New
Holland Borough’s overburdened
water treatment facility for final
purification.
Last summer, Weaver applied
to the state for a permit to
completely treat all its industrial
wastes and discharge directly
into a tributary of Mill Creek.
Architects for Weaver are
presently designing the con
struction of the additional
facilities to house the tertiary
equipment. Upon completion, the
facilities will be capable of
handling one and a half million
gallons of waste water daily
Fix-It Tip
Learn some elementary
plumbing. Otherwise, you
will find yourself paying a
high minimum service
charge to a plumber to re
place a five-cent washer or
fix a drain you could have
cleared yourself in two min
utes. You’ll need only a few
simple tools, such as a medi
um-sized monkey wrench, a
screwdriver, a pair of pliers,
a spring-steel plumber’s
“snake” .ind a “plumber’s
helper”—a rubber suction
cup fitted to a wooden
handle
