Omaha Cattle
Thursday, February 24
Compared with last weeks
close closing prices on slaughter
steers were 25-50 c higher and
heifers strong to 25c higher. Cows
closed 25-SOc lower. Bulls fully
steady. Feeders fully steady,
instances 25c higher early on
fleshy two-way steers.
Four day receipts 19,800 as
compared 18,600 previous week
and 15,200 a year ago, when
marketings were disrupted by
blizzard conditions. Slaughter
S.teers approximately 39 per cent,
heifers 38 per cent, fairly liberal
percentage Choice but High-
Choice and Prime limited. Cows
10 per cent, feeders 10 per cent.
Fed cattle trade followed
irregular course. Prices ad
vanced sharply on modest
Monday supply but part of early
advance lost at midweek as
carcass prices again pointed
downward. Most slaughterers
entered week with fair inventory
of live cattle and urgency of
demand further diminished by a
non-slaughter holiday in most
Omaha area plants on Monday.
Average cost slaughter steers
first three days 35.93 average
weight 1118 pounds as compared
35.50 and 1118 pounds previous
week and 31.66 and 1141 pounds a
year ago.
