This price did not give me enough money to pay for the feed and certainly not enough for the wrist watch which I wanted so much in those days. Another list for expenditures showed five cents for a comb, 20 cents for gifts and 50 cents for a gym blouse Even though eggs may be three times that price, I also find that a gym blouse is now eight times that earlier price. Saturday, February 26,1972—25 Ido 5 Mot* bo °' < '’ «* My father tells me a man received 40 cents a day for stripping tobacco in 1900. But then, a pair of wooden peg shoes, which lasted a year, only cost $1 95. Whether the prices are up or down, we seem to keep struggling to make ends meet XXX Sometimes the unexpected can be a boon. A number of years ago we ordered a pair of trousers for my husband from a mail-order catalog. When the package finally arrived, it was a small thin box which contained, to our amazement, a fluorescent lamp to be installed under a kitchen cabinet. At that time, I didn’t even have a cabinet. But since the price for the two items was identical and the serial number had been transposed accidentally, we decided to keep the light and I got a cabinet to go with it He never did get those trousers XXX Have you noticed how pic turesque the names of some towns are? While studying the map of Schuylkill County, where we go for coal for our furnace, I’ve picked out a few names which sound better than they look Good Springs, Lost Creek, Ravine, Forestville, Valley View, Pine Grove, Fern Glen and Deer Lake However, the mountains are pretty with a light covering of snow Ph. 786-7337
