The Garden Spot Young
Farmers Association held its
annual banquet at the Blue Ball
Fire Hall last Friday night,
February 18.
William Fisher, East Earl
RD2, was elected president to
succeed Loren Zimmerman.
Fisher was vice president during
the past year. Also elected were;
John J Landis, vice president;
Walter C. Martin, secretary,
Earl S. Weaver, treasurer; Glenn
Hershey, public relations
director, and M. Dale Herr,
member-at-large.
Henry Givler, area vocational
consultant, installed the new
officers in special ceremonies.
Larry R. Weaver, New Holland
RDI, received the Chapter’s
Outstanding Young Farmer
award. In the Lancaster County
competition, Weaver placed
second to Clarence Keener,
Manheim RDI, who went on to
become the Pennsylvania Out
standing Young Farmer.
John Yost, Kinzer RDI,
received the high DHIA member
award. His herd average was
15,393 pounds of milk and 656
pounds of butterfat.
Yost was previously recognized
at the annual Lancaster County
DHIA banquet for having the
third highest county average in
1971.
Earl Weaver, New Holland
RDI, received the first place
award in the corn grain
evaluation contest. Weaver
aroduced 187 bushels per acre.
He was followed closely by
Frank Yost, Narvon RD2, with
185 bushels and Glenn Hershey,
New Holland RD2, with 184
Dushels. Hershey was first,
lowever, in dollar yield per acre.
Harold Wissler, New Holland
TDI, was fourth and Andrew
jtoltzfus, Elverson RD2, was
ifth in com grain yield.
In com silage evaluation, Eli
vlartm, New Holland RDI, was
irst with an outstanding 15,296
rounds of total disgestiblr
lutnents (TDN) per acre. Martin
dso had the highest dollar yield
>er acre.
