The meeting was brought to order by Frank Stoltzfus, president, using the official FFA opening ceremony. Terry Murray gave a report of the fund raising committee. Murray stated that his com mittee had planned a paper drive with the suggested date being February 19. Squash Growers Meeting There will be a Squash Growers luncheon meeting sponsored by the Consumers Packing Com pany at 12 p.m. Thursday, February 24. Due to attendance increase the meeting will be held at the Willow Valley Restaurant, 'Willow Street, not at Bird-in- Hand as previously stated. A three screen slide presen tation entitled “Miracle on the Land” will be shown. This production explains the farmers side of ecology. Lancaster 393-3906 New Holland 354-4191 Murray stated the committee felt that a paper drive would help to improve the environment in two ways: first, it would help to recycle waste paper, thereby reducing littering and air pollution which results from burning papers; secondly, money earned from the paper drive will be used to purchase landscaping plants for the High School grounds, in an effort to make them more colorful and at tractive. Members voted and approved a motion to have the paper drive February 19 and to use most of the money for landscaping of the High School grounds. Trucks covered all state routes in the district from 8 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, February 19. Other trucks covered streets in Honey Brook, Morgantown, Elverson, Geigertown, Plowville and Gibraltar. Tom Carskadon reported that the Governor Mifflin FFA Chapter was guests of Twin Comets sufficiently bright to be seen without a tele scope are rare. Refreshment committee consisted of Tom Carskadon, Lloyd Simmers and Robin Cairns. Details of the FFA basketball tournament to be held at Twin Valley on Wednesday, February 23 were given. It is hoped that all members will participate in this event. Members approved the form for banquet tickets and a ten tative banquet program. The FFA banquet will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 10 in the Twin Valley High School cafeteria. Tickets will be available from any FFA member at a cost of $2 for adults and $1 for children. Members also decided to give certificates of appreciation to at least three persons who have greatly aided the FFA in the last year. FFA members were invited to attend the Young Farmer meeting in the vo ag classroom when Earl Groff presented slides on agriculture in Russia. The results of the Berks County FFA Project Book Contest were given as follows; Richard Kurtz, second, single enterprise farming program book; Nevin Mast, third,-thr«e-eHterprise-farming~ program book; Frank Stoltzfus, second, four enterprise farming program book; Jim Stoltzfus, first, and Gary Haller, second, work experience books, $5OO to $1,000; Tom Beiler, second, and Bill Ford, third, work experience books, $l,OOO to $1,500; Terry Murray, second, work experience book, $1,500 to $2,000.
